PUTTING IT TOGETHER It Takes Talent and L ong before the lights come up at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, the team behind the Screen Actors Guild Awards is hard at work. From the designers and workers who decorate the stunning showroom to the producers, directors and technicians who keep things running smoothly, it takes many helping hands to make it all come together. The masterminds behind the production are the five members of the SAG Awards Committee, who develop the vision for the show. This year's committee consists of Chair JoBeth Williams, Vice Chair Daryl Anderson, Jason George, Woody Schultz and a new addition to the team, Elizabeth McLaughlin. McLaughlin also serves on the Los Angeles Local Board. She began accumulating a fan following in 2008 as the lead in The Clique, after which she played dozens of parts on stage and on screen, including in Pretty Little Liars, First Day and Betrayal. McLaughlin most recently starred as Alicia Hopkins in both seasons of Hand of God. Working alongside the committee is Executive Producer Kathy Connell. Connell co-founded the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 1993 and served as its producer and, since 2013, as executive producer. As the awards show progresses from blank slate to international telecast, the entire team comes together during several intense months of long days to manage and organize the production schedule and budget. For weeks leading up to the show, they spend more hours together than apart, making sure that the lights go on, the cameras are set and the presenters know their lines when the big moment arrives on Jan. 21. From brainstorming colors to every detail and step on the red carpet, the team has a lot to do before the curtain goes up for the 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.
