SPEED TASTING An Italian Classic: GALLIANO L' AUTENTICO The original recipe of this anise-based liqueur was inspired by a heroic Italian army general in 1896. It would be in the 1970's that it would gain zeitgeist status among trendsetting drinkers, who helped put the Harvey Wallbanger on the map. The gold color refl ects another inspiration: Italian immigrants who fl ocked to California for the Gold Rush in the 19th century. When Lucas Bols acquired the brand, the original recipe was revived, offering 30 herbs including star anise, vanilla, ginger, juniper, citrus and lavender. Our presenter Jacob Grier, Key Account Specialist for Bols, re-interpreted the old Harvey Wallbanger recipe, substituting vodka with a new element: wheat beer.
