www.postmagazine.com 7 POST DECEMBER 2017 BITS & PIECES CHATSWORTH, CA — Intelligent Computer Solutions Inc. (ICS) (www.ics-iq.com), a disk drive duplication and computer forensic systems company, recent- ly announced its merger with JMR Electronics Inc. (JMR) (www.jmr.com), provider of scalable data storage solutions. The merger combines ICS's 27 years of market experience in developing disk drive duplication and computer forensic acquisition and analysis systems with JMR's 35 years of experience as an ISO-9001 accredited company. The partnership leverages JMR's sales, marketing and operational efficiencies with an end-to-end, in- house integrated design and manufacturing resource base that includes circuit and software engineering, 3D CAD design, sheet metal fabrication, printed circuit and system assembly through final testing utilizing the latest in modern MRP processes to streamline production. ICS will be launching multiple new enterprise-level products targeted at the com- mercial duplication and computer forensic markets in early 2018. In addition, the company will debut a new, portable and automatic plug-n-forget "one button" recovery device for the consumer PC/Mac and commercial IT markets in Q1 2018. "This partnership leverages ICS's almost three decades of product innovations and design ca- pability with our ability to quickly commercialize and bring to market products that will provide the highest levels of performance and quality of service for consistent, predictable operation and reliability to real-life application environments," says Josef Rabinovitz, president and CEO of JMR. "Our two companies' combined resources will now enable us to significantly accelerate the in- troduction of new products to the market," adds Gonen Ravid, president and CEO of ICS. "We will continue to drive customer-centric innovation while further establishing our technological leader- ship by working closely with OEMs and our chan- nel partners to develop enabling data duplication, recovery and computer forensic solutions to better serve our long-time and future customers." ICS MERGES WITH JMR TO DEVELOP NEW LINE OF SOLUTIONS NEWBURY, UK — Post recently had a chance to catch up with Damon Hawkins, product manager, editing color & finishing, SAM (Snell Advanced Media) (www.s-a-m.com) about the company's continuing plans for its line of Rio color editing, finishing, media sharing and storage solutions. We haven't heard any updates on the Rio system in a while — nothing at NAB, nothing at IBC — why is that? "SAM has been growing Rio into new markets so there has been sig- nificant activity on this front. In ad- dition to our traditional post market, we are extending Rio to a broader production and editing environment. This has very positive implications for our post customers, giving them the ability to make use of standard IT storage and COTS hardware. "They also have access to Go! — our browser based editing system — which allows viewing and shot se- lection in any location, from virtually any browser. "Post users can also make use of Go! to look at rushes, etc., then pick these up in Rio in HD, 2K or 4K. This means you can have multiple users all accessing files remotely, using standard storage, whether that is a SAN or NAS, via either the Rio or Go! Users can have collabora- tive workflow sharing, remote work- flows (shot selection, client review/ approval, etc.) via Go!, but still be able to have the same production workflows and tools that they are used to on Rio. "At IBC, we showed Rio with added scalability and functionality, including HDR, HFR, Dolby Vision tools and added production com- pression. At the other end of the scale we can now pare Rio right back to provide a desktop proxy- based edit system, so it can be tai- lored to suit a range of applications." Is SAM moving away from the post production market? "SAM is not moving away from post, we have just extended access to Rio out to a much broader user base. Our focus is all about drawing on our extensive technology portfolio to give our customers — across the board, be that in broadcast or post — access to the best features and functionality." Will there be any news on Rio coming down the road? "There will be lots of news…Rio is the foundation of Vibe and as such will be used by a much broader user base that will drive the product forward. Our automation API on Rio with the use of media transformers being deployed as render engines greatly increases the productivity for all production editing markets. This allows the automation of workflows within Rio remotely by running scripts." Will there be any news from SAM that relates directly to the post market? "We have recently implemented Dolby Vision in Rio and also a pro- duction compression codec that we believe to be the best on the market. This was originally based on VC2/ Dirac compression. However, we have added a lot of our own technol- ogy vastly improving performance all the way up to 8K. Once media is in the system it is completely lossless across multiple renders and allows our customers to hold more media on their Rio workspace." — By Linda Romanello SAM DISCUSSES RIO UPDATES The Media MASSter
