Moreover, he has three new films slated to premiere in 2018. Freeman continues to be an audience favorite, ranking among the top five worldwide top-grossing actors of all time, with his films having earned more than $4.5 billion in cumulative ticket sales. Although Freeman is an unquestionable talent, he is more than an entertainer. The SAG Life Achievement Award also recognizes humanitarian and philanthropic work. With an emphasis on his home state, Freeman has supported organizations that focus on youth education and community arts. Whether it's Teach for America, the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort, the Rock River Foundation or funding PLAN!T NOW, his organization focused on natural disaster preparedness, Freeman has been a devoted supporter of art, education and economic development in Mississippi, where he has a home. Freeman is also a co-founder of the Frank Silvera Writers' Workshop, now in its 37th season. The Workshop supports and nurtures promising African-American playwrights, helping to ensure their voices As Sgt. Maj. John Rawlins in 1989's Glory. Freeman is well known for playing authority figures, including the President of the United States in 1998's Deep Impact. Freeman as God alongside Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty.
