Petraeus, whose military career spanned more than 37 years, is best known for his public service, leading multiple operations in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as being the director of the Central Intelligence Agency. The four-star general took questions from Torrance Memorial donors. The reception preceded his appearance at the Distinguished Speaker Series of Southern California, of which Torrance Memorial is a sponsor. The tree-lighting ceremony and fundraiser, held in honor of National Hospice & Palliative Care Month, was an opportunity to celebrate, reflect and honor a loved one's life. Funds raised from the event support the Torrance Memorial's Hospice programs and assist those who cannot afford hospice care.
