Summer 2017 The Costume Designer 25 Outstanding Costumes for a Period | Fantasy Series, Limited Series or Movie Feud: Bette and Joan And the Winner Is… Lou Eyrich Costume Supervisor: Katie Saunders Assistant Designer: Hannah Jacobs I don't know what we would have done without fabric printing. Since it was too time-consuming to locate the good vintage fabrics and prints, we relied on CADFab digital printing to replicate the fabrics we needed, from Baby Jane's floral dress to Bette Davis' 1978 Oscar caftan. Also, Photo- shop, although not a recent tool, is our go-to to throw ideas quickly together and email to Ryan for approval when in a rush. Hon- estly, I rely on my more tech-savvy crew, as I tend to be more tactile and hands-on … I'm learning a lot from them! Genius Einstein: Chapter Seven Sonu Mishra Costume Supervisor: Petia Krckova Assistant Designer: Martina Hejlová On Genius, the costumes covered the period from 1886 to 1955. Each episode jumped at least five years in the storytelling. This affected the silhouette drastically. Being able to double-check facts on search engines was a huge help. There is a large bank of archive videos, photographs, articles, sketches, and other research materials readily available. Being able to email fitting files with notes and ideas discussed in the fitting room for approvals and receiving immediate feedback allows me to work in an efficient manner. The approved costumes can then go down the grapevine—from the fitting room, to the director and producers, assistants, tailors, set supervisors, the actor ready for camera, then finally to the costumers doing returns.
