C A S Q U A R T E R L Y S U M M E R 2 0 1 7 43 Craig Carter SOUND DESIGNER Jonathan Demme was the recipient of our CAS Filmmaker Award in 2013. He was a prominent director and producer, directing such modern film classics as The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won an Oscar in 1992, Philadelphia, The Manchurian Candidate, and Rachel Getting Married. He had a unique and diverse talent that seduced audiences and brought out stunning performances from his cast. His work can be enjoyed across many genres including documentary, comedy, thriller, and drama. Jonathan left an incredible legacy that inspires us all. David Lewis Yewdall was a gifted and beloved sound supervisor and sound designer. He is known for his work on many iconic films, including The Fifth Element, Starship Troopers, and Jackie Brown. He also inspired and educated others in his craft teaching at University of North Carolina School of the Arts. His presence will be missed in the community. Jonathan Demme FILMMAKER David Lewis Yewdall SOUND DESIGNER Jerry Perlman was a wonderful friend and supporter of our community. During his impressive career as an engineer, he helped to develop some of the best names in the music world, served as an inventor for Sencore, developing the Terrasonde audio toolbox, and served some of the top re-recording mixers in our business. As Chief Engineer of the TV Post Production Sound Department at Sony Pictures Entertainment, his skill and heart touched many of our members and assisted in the successful completion of many phenomenal soundtracks. Jerry Perlman ENGINEER Australian sound designer Craig Carter was a multiple AFI Award winner for films such as Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Lighthorsemen, Ground Zero, and Malcom. With early credits as a sound editor on feature films such as Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Crocodile Dundee, Craig was currently working with producer Tait Bradley on Clayton Jacobson's film Sibling Rivalry. Craig dedicated 34 years of his life to sound and the entertainment industry. Craig's presence will be sadly missed by the global sound community but his incredible contribution to storytelling through sound will no doubt continue to touch generations who will continue to enjoy his great work on many iconic films.
