He spent the past summer dressing sets and building miniatures for an independent feature in New York, THE STRANGE ONES. The model pictured here was created as part of a high-concept sci-fi pitch he and fellow students are developing independently. It is a rendering of a basement biohacking lab where pseudoscientists cobble together flesh constructs. Above right: SIERRA BEZDEKA (Class of 2017) was born and raised in Idaho, then made her way across the United States to pursue a BFA in Production Design at UNCSA's School of Filmmaking. Ms. Bezdeka designed and constructed this hot-air balloon set for the short film TETHERED. Both a full-size basket and the miniature shown here were woven and welded with the ability to turn and move within the shot. The goal was to shoot as much practically as possible, so sky and storm backdrops were utilized and three-dimensional clouds were built on rolling frames. Ms. Bezdeka is eager to begin her path toward a career within a professional Art Department. Right: BRIT MCDONOUGH (Class of 2018) earned an AAS in radio/television, an AA in liberal arts, a specialized diploma in multimedia and two cosmetology licenses before fi nally fi nding her way to the Production Design program at UNCSA. Her wide-ranging background has provided her with various skills, including hair and makeup, prosthetics, furniture construction, specialty props, model making, hand drafting, CAD, scenic painting and the use of computer programs such as Adobe After Effects ® , Photoshop, Lightroom ® and Lumion ® . She has worked as Art Director on several short fi lms, and within the Art Department on both live broadcast and fi lmed productions. The rendered model is for YOUR MOTHER'S A WHORE, her third-year thesis as a Production Designer. Having grown up in the Northeast, she looks forward to returning to New York after graduation. Above right: BECCA GOMEZ (Class of 2017) moved to Winston-Salem to pursue her BFA in UNCSA's Production Design program. Pictured is a photograph and model of the hero prop she built for the student film, TETHERED. Set in 1895, an inventor has manufactured a machine that changes the weather when it plays music. Becca created the invention by combining a gramophone, a typewriter, and a piano (complete with working keys), an operational crank and a spinning cylinder to read music off of. The gramophone's acoustic horn was built with a 3D printer for the ¼ inch scale model. She plans to pursue props fabrication in a professional setting upon her graduation. has worked as Art Director on several short fi lms, and within the Art Department on both live broadcast and fi lmed productions.
