The SketchUp model revealed that overhead lighting rigs would reflect in the upstairs glass railings, requiring a pivot to rosewood railings. The floating rosewood staircase created a central masculine DNA-chain sculptural element; two box steel beams, in a parallel hockey stick-like configuration, were encased with the intersecting rosewood boxes. Managing information and maintaining secrecy at every stage of a production can prove quite daunting. Not only is the final product subject to review as in past years, now every daily detail no matter how small can be dissected on a global scale, shaping and affecting the collective attitude toward the final product. These days, the usual crowd of paparazzi are no match for the Twitter feeds and blogs of ubiquitous fans with their cellphone cameras. Because I have designed several film adaptations of books, I remain aware of the enormous responsibility to get it right by pleasing loyal fans. I always read the source material, and highlight any description or visual clues that would help environments feel familiar to readers.
