49 SAG -AF TR A | Special Issue 2017 | SAGAFTRA.org Actor may be a lot smaller, but the process of creating the statuette isn't that simple. Forged at Burbank's American Fine Arts Foundry, a team of 10 artisans spend weeks creating The Actor. They start by filling a hollow silicone mold of the figure's body with boiling wax. The arms are cast separately and, once both have hardened, they are assembled into the full statuette. The wax Actor is used to create a ceramic mold, which is filled with molten bronze to create the final version of the award. The entire process of creating the statues uses 95 pounds of wax, 225 pounds of ceramic and 750 pounds of bronze. But they aren't done yet. The shiny bronze Actor is oxidized with a blowtorch, giving it a greenish hue. The statue is then cleaned and polished and affixed to a granite base. Finally, every Actor is engraved with a unique serial number and then it's ready for the big night. That's when the real fun begins. Tune in to TNT or TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern to catch it all. The Actor get polished in the final phase of the process. BET T Y IMAGES??????? Putting It Together ///
