For Members 24 SAG-AFTRA | Fall 2016 | SAGAFTRA.org BOARDROOM DEDICATED TO HOWARD L inda Fetters Howard was the guest of honor at the dedication of the Ken Howard New York Boardroom, named in honor of her late husband and SAG-AFTRA's first elected president. About 60 guests, including national and New York Local Board members, New York convention delegates, and staff attended the ceremony on Oct. 20, which celebrated Howard's life, career and unwavering service to his fellow performers. Executive Vice President Rebecca Damon and New York Local President Mike Hodge presided over the ribbon-cutting and reflected on their fond memories of working with Howard, especially on his proudest achievement: the merger of SAG and AFTRA. New York Local President Mike Hodge, New York Local Executive Director Jeffrey Bennett, Linda Fetters Howard and Executive Vice President Rebecca Damon joined National Board members and other well-wishers for a champagne toast at the dedication of the Ken Howard Boardroom in New York on Oct. 26. ACTING INTERNATIONALLY W orking to address the many challenges faced by actors across the globe, SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris, Executive Vice President Rebecca Damon, Secretary-Treasurer Jane Austin and senior staff attended the 21st Congress of the International Federation of Actors (FIA) from Sept. 19–25 in São Paulo, Brazil. Carteris was featured on a panel addressing double standards for performers in international production, National Executive Director David White spoke on a panel regarding the ongoing ratification challenge facing the WIPO Beijing Treaty, and Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Duncan Crabtree- Ireland was on a panel discussing diversity and inclusion. Over the course of the Congress, SAG-AFTRA sponsored five motions, all of which were adopted. Of the motions, three pertained to diversity, one was about digital revenue, and another covered conditions on international productions. During the meeting, SAG-AFTRA received a statement of support from sister unions regarding negotiations on the Interactive Media Agreement, as well as praise for the passing of AB 1687, the law that allows performers to have their age removed from certain websites. In addition, White was elected a vice president of FIA, and joined the officers group known as the Presidium. The theme was Acting for Diversity, with a focus on equal employment opportunity and the fight against discrimination.
