Torrance Memorial's ADVANTAGE program offers a variety of
resources for individuals over age 50, including this five-week course
designed to give family members strategies and resources to care for
a loved one with dementia. Led by gerontologist Sharmone La Rose,
MD, the course meets for 2 1/2 hours weekly and explains the types
and causes of dementia before outlining communication skills and
behavioral management strategies relevant for caregivers helping
individuals through the activities of daily living. The course also covers
physical and emotional health for caregivers, as well as community
resources. It is held at the ADVANTAGE Program Education Annex,
3105 Lomita Blvd., Torrance.
