STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT HIGHER LEVELS OF EDUCATION, CARING FOR SOMEONE WITH DEMENTIA Torrance Memorial's ADVANTAGE program offers a variety of resources for individuals over age 50, including this five-week course designed to give family members strategies and resources to care for a loved one with dementia. Led by gerontologist Sharmone La Rose, MD, the course meets for 2 1/2 hours weekly and explains the types and causes of dementia before outlining communication skills and behavioral management strategies relevant for caregivers helping individuals through the activities of daily living. The course also covers physical and emotional health for caregivers, as well as community resources. It is held at the ADVANTAGE Program Education Annex, 3105 Lomita Blvd., Torrance.
