New Rooftop Destination at theWIT C hicago's theWIT Hotel has received national recognition for having one of the world's best rooftop bars, and this summer it has unveiled excit- ing new additions and upgrades at Roof, perched 27 fl oors above the city. Developments include the largest and tallest retractable roof enclosures that will allow guests to party all year long. The feat of building the 30-feet-wide and 21-feet- tall retractable, all glass and 17-beam steel structure system at Roof took over four months and involved helicopters, cranes and precision—the fi rst time an architectural renovation has been done like this in the U.S. THE TASTING PANEL will be partying at theWIT later this month and will report on Roof and its food and beverage team in the September issue. Management Changes at Pernod Ricard P aul Duff y, Chairman and CEO, Pernod Ricard USA, has been appointed Chairman and CEO, The Absolut Company, based in Stockholm, Sweden. Duffy, who also was named to the Pernod Ricard Group Executive Committee, succeeds Philippe Guettat, who has been named Chairman and CEO, Mumm Martell Perrier Jouët Company, replacing Lionel Breton, who is retiring. Bryan Fry, currently President and CEO, Pernod Ricard Brazil, will succeed Duffy at Pernod Ricard USA. In his new role, Duffy will assume global responsibility for the marketing, production and commercial development of ABSOLUT Vodka, Malibu Rum and Kahlúa. His experience in the U.S. market—which represents roughly 40 percent of The Absolut Company's global business—will offer signifi cant benefi t. "I'm looking forward to building on the momentum we've established for ABSOLUT and Malibu in the U.S., and to stepping up our turnaround plans for Kahlúa," Duffy says. july 2012 / the tasting panel / 11
