MILLER (1971, Leon Ericksen, Production Designer). On January 1, 2016, Production Designers lost one of their best friends, cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond. Over his fifty-five-year career, he had lensed almost one hundred movies, receiving four Academy Award ® nominations and winning one Oscar ® for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, directed by Steven Spielberg with Production Design by Joe Alves. The cinematographer and the production designer are two artists, holding the same paintbrush. " The cinematographer and the production designer " –Vilmos Zsigmond Vilmos was a great friend. I worked with him when I was an Art Director with Production Designer Bob Boyle on Winter Kills and Table for Five. I worked with him again when I assisted Production Designer Chuck Rosen as an Art Director on The River. I was associated with him, or near him, when he worked with friends on many other films but we never got to work REMEMBERING VILMOS ZSIGMOND by Norman Newberry, Production Designer
