As the television landscape continues to expand and evolve, and as the Television Academy's 20,000+ professional members increasingly create and produce content for new and emerging global platforms, the Television Academy's Board of Governors has voted to expand its Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony to two consecutive nights, both of which will take place the weekend prior to the Emmy Awards telecast. The new two-show format at LA LIVE's Microsoft Theater will include presentations of above- and below-the-line awards, as previously presented in a single-evening event. These back-to-back ceremonies will honor a wide range of contributors including Art Directors, costume designers, cinematographers, sound editors and will include both nontraditional short form content as well as traditional content. "One of our primary missions as an Academy is to recognize creative excellence, both in front of and behind the cameras," said Academy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Rosenblum. Our Academy has a legacy of adjusting and expanding our awards to reflect the changing nature of our members' Emmy-worthy work. The industry is growing, and we now have more than enough wonderful creativity to enjoy a second creative arts show where we can celebrate the excellence and achievement of this year's work." To avoid audience-attendance overlap, the two shows will be split into two broad category groups. Additionally, identical Creative Arts Ball celebrations will be held on each night. The Television Academy will announce nominations for the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards on the morning of Thursday, July 14. The LA LIVE Microsoft Theater was home to last year's 67TH ANNUAL EMMY AWARDS. The set for the primetime show was created by Production Designers Tamlyn Wright and Baz Halpin, with assistance from Digital Model Maker Chris Nyfield. news
