The event was held for the ninth successive year, in what has become one of the most popular pre-Oscar-night events. Excerpts from the nominated films were shown throughout the panel discussion. The panel was moderated by former Guild President Thomas Walsh, and Set Decorator Jan Pascale, an Academy Governor. The participants included the team from Bridge of Spies, Production Designer Adam Stockhausen and Set Decorators Rena DeAngelo, SDSA. and Bernhard Henrich, the team from The Danish Girl, Production Designer Eve Stewart and Set Decorator Michael Standish, the team from Mad Max: Fury Road, Production Designer Colin Gibson and Set Decorator Lisa Thompson, SDSA, the team from The Martian, Production Designer Arthur Max and Set Decorator Celia Bobak, SDSA, and the team from The Revenant, Production Designer Jack Fisk and Set Decorator Hamish Purdy. This represents the first nominations for Colin Gibson, Rena DeAngelo, Bernhard Henrich, Lisa Thompson, Michael Standish and Hamish Purdy. It is the second nomination for Jack Fisk and Celia Bobak, the third nomination for Arthur Max, and the fourth nomination for Eve Stewart. Adam Stockhausen has been nominated three times—three years in a row—and he won the Oscar last year for The Grand Budapest Hotel. He is the only previous Oscar winner on this year's panel. The event was a presentation of American Cinematheque, co-presented by the Art Directors Guild and the Set Decorators Society of America. Sponsored by THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER and DXV by American Standard.
