H O T E L H A P P E N I N G S B M & T ••• November/December 2015 ••• www.blackmeetingsandtourism.com 8 If you were a fan of Hotel Maya before, you're going to love it even more following a newly completed $4 million refresh. Improvements include updated, modern guest room enhancements and the addition of a brand-new event pavilion and terrace located at the water's edge; a combined 16,400-sq. ft., the "Lagunita" pavilion and "Vista del Mar" are unlike any other event spaces in Southern California! Hotel Maya underwent a $20 million renovation in 2009 and became a Doubletree by Hilton hotel on November 1, 2010. A popular staycation and celebration destination, the boutique, resort- style property offers a Latin-American inspired design, presenting guests with a distinctively Southern California combination of stunning seaside views amidst 14 acres of lush, tropical gardens filled with over 500 palm tre es in a modern, open-air, setting. The 199-room Hotel Maya completely transformed its guest rooms by installing new, custom hardwood floors for a sleek, modern, coastal feel. Each guest room entry door was replaced with an exquisitely hand- carved wood door similar to the signature, oversized door that welcomes guests at the hotel's lobby entrance, as well as on meeting and event spaces throughout the property. New floor-to-ceiling retractable sliding glass doors lead to water view and garden view patios and balconies, offer- ing an expansive indoor/outdoor living space evoking a tropical resort. Air conditioning systems were exchanged for sleeker, quieter, more ener- gy-efficient units. "The renovated guests rooms are a perfect complement to the new Lagunita and Vista del Mar events spaces, which creates a unique archi- tectural synergy," said Kristi Allen, vice president of Hotel Operations at Hotel Maya – a DoubleTree by Hilton. "We are always evaluating the needs of the market and our clients as well as listening to guests' feedback to further improve our ever-popular property." In addition to the new guest room renovations, guests staying at Hotel Maya will enjoy well-appointed rooms with dynamic colors, comple- mented with earthy, organic furnishings and finishes; specially designed plush pillow, mattress and high thread-count linens; private balconies with ocean and garden views; private waterfront dock where guests can enjoy seasonal amenities, concierge; bicycle rental; fitness center; Latin Inspired outdoor waterfront heated lap pool and Jacuzzi with private cabanas; and a walking path . The "Lagunita" pavilion, named for an ancient Mayan city, is an 80 ft.
