12 P E R S P E C T I V E | J A N UA RY / F E B R UA RY 2 0 1 6 contributors CARLOS A. MENENDEZ was born in Havana, Cuba, and studied architecture at the University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation, he joined the New York architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, where he worked as an architect on the ABC Phase III Corporate Headquarters, the Mellon Bank Tower in Philadelphia and the IBM corporate headquarters in Montreal. Mr. Menendez shifted his focus to set design in the early 1990s starting as Art Director in Miami on the television series South Beach. Since then, he has worked as Production Designer on South of Hell, Rob the Mob, Step Up Revolution, Love, Wedding, Marriage and Stopping Power. He has designed numerous commercials in South America, Europe and Southeast Asia and received three ADG Award nominations for the Capital One What's in Your Wallet? campaign. In 2014, he began collaborating with Pinewood Studios, UK and Entrenamientos Cinematográficos del Caribe to teach Art Direction in the Dominican Republic. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, JOHN MOTT grew up in Sydney, Australia, where he graduated from Sydney University. Recent feature credits include The Sessions (Audience Award 2012 Sundance Film Festival), Snake and Mongoose, Coffee Town, Atlas Shrugged: Part 1, Brake and The One. His television credits include 12 Monkeys – Series 1 and 2 for Syfy, The Americans – Series 1 and 2 for FX, the 2011 Emmy Awards ® on FOX, the post- apocalyptic CBS drama Jericho and the Discovery series Moments in Time for which he was nominated for an Art Directors Guild Award. He was the keynote speaker on Production Design for Digital Capture at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, an invited speaker on Production Design at the AFI and a member of the ADG Production Design panel at Comic-Con 2015 in San Diego.
