by Jonathan McKinstry, Production Designer
Everything comes from the script. There are
obvious mechanics to a set: door on the right,
window on the left. Beyond that, I seek to
understand the nuances of the characters so
I can design the physical environments they
might have created for themselves. I want to
believe Dr. Frankenstein could have built his
monsters in the workroom I see on screen,
or that Sir Malcolm really lives in the home
I (he?) created. Most importantly, I want to
create sets that are believable, that feel real
and appropriate for the characters.
