The final section of the Lumetri Color panel is comprised of the vignette tools, which let you fade the edges of the frame to black (or white) with controls to modify the amount, mid-point, roundness and feather of the vignette (see Figure 5). OTHER USEFUL ADDITIONS Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 also contains several other important enhancements. The new Morph Cut effect can smooth out the transitions on a clip that has been cut up. Suppose you are working on an interview and have eliminated awkward pauses in it in order to make the audio flow better. These cuts can cause unsightly glitches in the action. The Morph Cut effect can smooth out these transitions through a technique of face tracking and frame interpolation. It takes a few moments for the Morph Cut effect to analyze the footage so it can do its work, but that analysis can happen in the background. Premiere Pro CC 2015 includes a new Creative Cloud Libraries panel in Premiere Pro that allows you to access CC libraries you have created yourself or that have been shared with you by others (see Figure 6). What is a Creative Cloud Library? It's a collection of assets such as graphic elements (created in such applications as Photoshop or Illustrator, Looks, swatches and other assets you might need. If you have a logo or a bug that you use consistently, simply store it in a library and quickly drag it into your project whenever you need it. You can also make custom libraries for particular jobs or clients and share them with your team. IBC ANNOUNCEMENTS This September at IBC in Amsterdam, Adobe previewed new video technology coming soon to Creative Cloud that will benefit Premiere Pro users. First on the list is native format support for editing high-resolution, 4K-to-8k footage. Premiere Pro will also support High Dynamic Range workflows, giving you access to a much greater range of highlight and shadow detail than conventional video. New UHD and HDR formats supported include DNxHR, H.265 and OpenEXR media. There's also deeper support for ARRI RAW and Rec. 2020. These formats can be imported directly without transcoding or re-wrapping, and input LUTs can be applied to them for basic correction. You can apply Master Clip Effects to a clip that you designate as a Master Clip, so that wherever you use that clip, it will appear with the effects on it, without you having to manually re-apply the effects to it each time. CONCLUSION Premiere Pro no longer has something to prove. The past few years have seen it evolve into a reliable and robust NLE in its own right that has been adopted my many post- production professionals. The addition of sophisticated color tools, as well as a comprehensive collection of scopes, now allow for comprehensive color work right inside the application. Adobe is already known as one of the most format-friendly editing applications. All one can ask for is that the company continues to improve this useful and elegant editing application. f TECH TIPS Top, Figure 4: The Lumetri Color Panel also contains a three-way color corrector for shadow, mid-tone and highlight adjustment. Left, Figure 5: There's also a handy Vignette section in the Lumetri Color Panel that makes it easy to create vignettes (fading out an image on its edges). Above, Figure 6: Premiere Pro CC 2015 now contains a Creative Cloud Libraries Panel for quick and easy access to design assets.
