SUMMER 2015 | WEAnews 10 George Shapcott and Shawn Courtney of California Casualty Announce the California Casualty Athletic Grant Winners Hanna/Elk Mountain Track Team Shoshoni High Track Team WEA President Kathy Vetter introduces the WEA Board to the attendees. The Wyoming Education Association held its 83rd annual Delegate Assembly in Laramie at the UW Convention Center and Hilton Garden Inn on April 9-11, 2015. WEA business was conducted over three days, including messaging and updates regarding recalibration and legislative interim education meetings for this year's attendees. WEA delegates were in for a treat when National Education Association Secretary-Treasurer Princess Moss (left) and NEA Western Region Executive Director Jason Burns (above) addressed the crowd separately about celebrating the WEA political wins this year, and celebrating the work members do every day. WEA Professional Issues Director Kathy Scheurman (left) presented to delegates regarding the accountability bill and upcoming legislative interim committee meetings around this topic. Delegates also heard from Communications Director Coleen Haines (above) about new messaging, and about upcoming Recalibration Committee meetings from WEA legal counsel Pat Hacker. WEA member and BEWM member Heather Kreiling helps auction off BEWM items for the Jane Smith Memorial Stipend. BEWM (Because Education in Wyoming Matters) is the millennial group aimed at younger-member engagement and recruiting and retaining millennials in the WEA. Central Region Representative Doreen McGlade and Northeast Region Representative Deb French high-five each other, while trading places at the microphone.
