The crew will be delivering more than two dozen episodes in the coming months and is relying on Small Tree storage to help accelerate its post workflow. The show's post set-up includes four Win- dows PCs and an iMac running Premiere Pro, a Windows PC running DaVinci Resolve, and a Mac Pro equipped with Adobe Audition. Prior to the Small Tree acquisition, The Division was using consumer-grade storage. "We needed a way to share all of our media between several editors, our audio mixer, and the colorist," explains online editor/EP Aaron Smith. The addition of a Small Tree TitaniumZ allows the mixed Mac and Windows environ- ment to share the same media at the same time, eliminating the need for file transfers between computers. The speed of the TitaniumZ made it possible to move terabytes of assets onto the storage system in the morning and share them in an afternoon. "Within a day, we were com- pletely set up and accessing media on the Tita- niumZ," says Smith. The show shoots a combination of HD for- mats, including Canon 60D, 7D, 5D MkII, GoPro and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras. Media is then loaded onto the TitaniumZ, renamed, and made available for editing in Pre- miere. All of the segments are edited in the native camera formats at full resolution directly off the TitaniumZ. The main content, QuickTime H.264 footage shot on Canon DSLR cameras, is shot in the Technicolor Cinestyle color setting at 45mbps, while the GoPro footage is shot using the ProTune color settings at 35mbps. Once seg- ments are edited, the program editor assembles them into the program sequences. After the pro- gram is locked, it's sent to Audition for the mix. Color correction is done on a high-end Win- dows PC running DaVinci Resolve. The program is rendered in sections as ProRes 422 or Cine- form QuickTime files with EDLs out of Premiere. The colorist can then open the renders in Resolve right from the TitaniumZ. After color is finished, the sections are rendered back onto the TitaniumZ as Cineform QuickTime movies, which can be added into Premiere. Once all the final media has been added to the program, graphics and supers are added, and the epi- sode is rendered to 1920x1080 movies for FTP upload. Original footage is stored on the Titani- umZ for the rest of the season and is then cop- ied to external hard drives for archive purposes. Sonnet introduces Fusion QR RAID 5 SATA storage system I RVINE, CA — Sonnet Technologies (www.sonnettech.com) recently launched Fusion QR, a compact and portable four-drive RAID 5 SATA stor- age system that replaces the com- pany's Fusion D400QR5. Like the legacy system, Sonnet reports that the Fusion QR integrates a high-per- formance RAID 5 controller for ver- satility, critical data protection, and added value, and offers a flexible quad interface that includes eSATA, dual FireWire 800 and USB 3.0. Available without drives, as well as in 8TB, 12TB, and 16TB configu- rations, the Fusion QR features a high-performance internal RAID con- troller that manages the enclosed 3.5-inch hard drives and offers five drive configuration options for maxi- mum flexibility. The RAID 5 configuration offers performance with enhanced security for critical files and provides data protection in case one of the drives fails. Other configuration options include maximum capacity and per- formance (RAID 0), balanced perfor- mance and security (RAID 10), and most concurrent audio file editing (JBOD). The Sonnet Fusion QR delivers data transfer rates of up to 250MBs/ sec. read and 240MBs/sec. write with its drives configured as a RAID 5 group. The Fusion QR is available now and has a suggested retail price that begins at $369 for the model without drives (0TB). The 16TB model is priced at $1,499. 8TB and 12TB configurations are also available. Rohde & Schwarz DVS debuts scalable storage solution H ANNOVER, GERMANY — Rohde & Schwarz DVS (www.dvs.de) recently introduced Spycer- Box Cell, its new, scalable storage solution that mea- sures 1U high and features 30 SSD, SAS or SATA hard drives mounted on a tray-based carrier system, which can be hot-swapped during operation. With its redun- dant architecture, SpycerBox Cell delivers data rates for uncompressed and compressed formats in SD, HD, 2K, 4K, 8K, and beyond. SpycerBox Cell is a SAN for uncompressed and compressed post production and broadcast formats — for SD, HD, 2K, 4K or 8K. According to the com- pany, a single SpycerBox Cell offers a guaranteed data throughput of over 3GB/s and a capacity of up to 36TBs with SAS, which is scalable using multiple SpycerBox Cell systems. Rohde & Schwarz DVS designed the SpycerBox Cell to be modular and redundant so the storage solution can be expanded easily when requirements become more demanding. The integrated SAN Remo Web-based user interface offers configuration of the hardware and software components. It also lets users monitor the system status, bandwidth levels, and performance. Scale Logic's Genesis RX integrates RAID 6 and 7 technology M INNEAPOLIS — Scale Logic (www.scale logicinc.com), a global data storage solutions company focused on storage and networking infra- structures, offers the Genesis RX series, its newest line of purpose-built, adaptable RAID or SAN appli- ances to integrate RAID 6 or 7 technology with the company's latest hardware components. The solution, targeted to media and entertainment professionals, can be used as a SAN in a box and connects up to eight FC clients to the back of the Genesis. The internal metadata controller, using Scale Logic's file system HyperFS, along with Straw- berry project management software, allows the prod- uct to be used universally between Avid, Adobe, Final Cut Pro, AJA, Blackmagic, Sony, Grass Valley and other applications. The Genesis RX series is enabled by Atto's Celer- ity Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), which include target mode, allowing the use of multiple Fibre Channel cards in a single appliance to create the SAN in a box topology. Genesis RX offers up to 10,000mbps, allowing over four streams of DPX 4K; and up to 432TBs in one 4U footprint.
