10 CINEMONTAGE / JUL-AUG 14 EDITORS RECOGNITION P E T I T I O N F O R T he American Cinema Editors Board of Directors has been actively pursuing film festivals and awards presentations, domestic and international, that do not currently recognize the category of Film Editing. The Motion Picture Editors Guild has joined with ACE in an unprecedented alliance to reach out to editors and industry people around the world. The organizations listed on the petition already recognize cinematography and/or production design in their annual awards presentations. Given the essential role film editors play in the creative process of making a film, acknowledging them is long overdue. We would like to send that message in solidarity. Please join us as we continue the effort to elevate the perception of editors everywhere. You can help by signing the petition to help get recognition for film editors by asking these organizations to add the Film Editing category to their annual awards: • Sundance Film Festival • Shanghai International Film Festival, China • San Sebastian Film Festival, Spain • Byron Bay International Film Festival, Australia • Durban International Film Festival, South Africa • New York Film Critics Circle • New York Film Critics Online • National Society of Film Critics We would like to thank the organizations that have recently added the Film Editing category to their Annual Awards: • Tribeca Film Festival • Washington DC Area Film Critics Association • Film Independent – Spirit Awards • Los Angeles Film Critics Association • Chicago Film Critics Association • Boston Film Festival • The International Animated Film Society – Annie Awards • Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror – Saturn Awards www.EditorsPetition.com Please sign our petition at: Now endorsed by the Motion Picture Sound Editors, Art Directors Guild, Cinema Audio Society, American Society of Cinematographers, Canadian Cinema Editors, and Guild of British Film and Television Editors Committee for Creative Recognition Editors Petition Ad CinemaEditor Magazine 6/2/14-R2 Trim = 8.5" x 11" Bleed = add 1/8" to all 4 sides Live = Keep all essential items 1/4" from trim This is really great. Congrats on the first digital issue! Stephen Rivkin, ACE, Picture Editor, Beverly Hills, CA Yes, great metamorphosis. Robin Russell, Picture Editor, Burbank, CA I love the digital format. Can I stop receiving the hard copy from now on? Jonathan Posell, ACE, Picture Editor, Valley Glen, CA First of all, I love the idea for several reasons. But I've always hated those web-based readers. I want to download a PDF of the entire issue onto my tablet. David M. Friedman, Picture Editor, New York City I love that we're going digital! My only comment now is why are we doing a print version at all? Wouldn't we save money and trees to just do digital? Or at least give those who prefer digital only the chance to opt out of the printed mag? Sheri Bylander, Picture Editor, Brooklyn, NY I did enjoy reading this issue in hard copy over the weekend, but happier still in looking forward to having them available to me anywhere on any of my devices. Much appreciated! John Eakin, Film Lab Technician, Lancaster, CA Please enroll me in the digital subscription and cancel the mailed version. It's great. Joanna Garland, Assistant Editor, Hollywood, CA I prefer the printed version. I find digital versions of magazines difficult to read. Miller Drake, Picture Editor, Glendale, CA I like the digital version and would like to opt out receiving the printed version. Is this possible? Michael Struk, Assistant Editor, Santa Monica, CA The digital version of the magazine looks awesome. There's a thread about it on the "I am the Union" Facebook page. A.J. Catoline, Picture Editor, Los Angeles Please stop mailing me the magazine. I'd prefer to read it online. Derrick Mitchell, Picture Editor, Simi Valley, CA CineMontage made its digital debut with the MAY-JUN 14 issue of the publication. Above is a sampling of the responses we received from Editors Guild members. A link to this current JUL-AUG 14 issue was e-mailed to the membership around the time the physical publication was published and mailed, a process that will continue going forward. The electronic editions are also accessible from the homepage of the Guild's website, www.editorsguild.com. Also, to those who mentioned opting out of being sent the printed magazine in their responses, and others considering it, the Guild is sending out an e-mail notifying members that they can choose to stop receiving the physical publication by accessing their member profiles on the Guild website. You can access this feature by logging into the Members Only area of the website, clicking on "Contact Info," scrolling down to "Magazine Delivery Option," choosing the appropriate selection, and then clicking "Save." - The Editor LET TERS TO THE EDITOR First Digital Issue of 'CineMontage' Spurs Comments The digital version of the magazine looks awesome.
