53 MAY-JUN 14 / CINEMONTAGE EUGENE FELDMAN MUSIC EDITOR SEPTEMBER 22, 1921 – FEBRUARY 14, 2014 Longtime music editor Eugene Feldman passed away February 14, 2014 at age 92 after a short hospital stay in Ithaca, New York. Gene began his career at Paramount in 1955 and then moved to the new CBS Studio Center in Studio City in 1959, where his music editing credits included TV hits such as Have Gun — Will Travel, Perry Mason, Rawhide, Gunsmoke and Hawaii Five-O. In 1970, he became the supervising music editor at Studio Center and continued work on TV as well as music editing many features. His features for Cinema Center Films included A Man Called Horse (with composer Leonard Rosenman), Rio Lobo (Jerry Goldsmith), Le Mans (Michel Le Grand), Adam at 6 A.M. (Dave Grusin) and The Reivers (John Williams). In 1974, Gene took a hiatus from the industry, and traveled in Africa, Europe and North America, finally settling in San Francisco, where he and his wife Gladys ran two stores specializing in imported clothing and jewelry. In 1980, Gene and Gladys returned to Los Angeles and Gene began work for Lorimar Productions, where he music edited the series Eight Is Enough and the features The Big Red One and Love and Money. Along with Irma Levin, Gene formed a music editing company, Noteworthy Productions, at Burbank Studios, in 1982. Noteworthy music edited the TV series T.J. Hooker and Designing Women, as well as the miniseries The Blue and the Gray and the popular feature Silverado. Gene retired in 1986 and he and Gladys moved to a lakeside home near Ithaca in 1988, where he spent the remainder of his life renovating their Italianate-style home and grounds, enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren, and caring for a changeable menagerie of pets. Gene was born in Los Angeles in 1921 and, after graduation from high school, enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in WWII in the South Pacific as an airplane mechanic. In 1949, he married Gladys Mazelow. Gene is pre-deceased by his parents Philip and Rachel Feldman of Los Angeles, eight brothers and sisters, all of Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gladys (Mazelow), son Ronald (Gwen Davis) and grandson Zachary — all of Cameron Mills, New York — and son Kim (Jeanne Miche), and grandson Jared, all of San Anselmo, California. A fine man, husband, father and editor will be greatly missed. - Ron Feldman GENE L. GILLETTE MUSIC EDITOR MARCH 3, 1931 – JANUARY 23, 2014 Gene L. Gillette passed away January 23 from kidney failure. He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and as a child moved to California with his parents. Gene was an Air Force veteran and served in the Korean War. His love of music and motion pictures led him to a 30-year career as a music editor working in television, with credits including The Bionic Woman (1976-78), Quincy, M.E. (1976- 83), Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989-93) and Law & Order (1990-2010). One of the highlights of his career was winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series for his work on the television series Airwolf (1984-86) in 1984. He also received Emmy nominations in the same categories for the same series in 1985 and 1986. He moved to Eugene, Oregon after his retirement to be closer to his daughters, Taffy and Wendy. In Oregon, he worked as a radio disc jockey at several stations, and wrote and self-published an e-novel, This Land is Mine, in 2012. Gene is also survived by sons-in-law Tom and Chris and grandchildren Josh, Brad, Andrew and Nicole. Rest in Peace, Dad.
