Each episode includes two or three short documentaries, with topics ranging from basketball in North Korea, to the unregulated tobacco industry in China, to unconventional ways to break drug addiction just south of the US border. As many as 20 crews can be out in the field at one time, and Daniels says they've put together a well-thought-out plan to capture media, create a redundant back up, deliver it for editorial and archive it for the future. The HBO program is captured primarily with C300 cameras in Log format, which provides latitude in post production for color correction and image processing. Crews shoot on CF cards and then back up to rugged drives. They upload footage via Aspera's high speed transfer software, and use Promise Technology servers in-house. In January, the New York location will have as many as 400TBs of storage available. LTO-5 tape is used for long-term archiving. By that I mean a vertically-integrated production model that encompasses creative direction, live-action production and all the steps of post production under one roof. Insert Marker and Insert Cycle Marker buttons are assigned in the touchscreen as well as marker information like start/end points for cycle markers, take number, character name, and dialog. Cue Bus Control is editable from the touch sensitive encoders and the user can easily toggle the ADR functions to the user defined buttons and back to the previous assigned functions. The Marker button in the numeric keypad section now toggles between Marker ID and Take Number for easy content location. User Assign Groups of 1-12 and 13-24 from the four banks can now be toggled to the User Define keys. The second new feature is a Yamaha AD8HR mic preamp, which can now be controlled from the multifunction knobs when the Pre button is pressed in the control section. HA Gain, HA Trim, HPF and 48V phantom power can be edited along with LC (Low Cut), HC (High Cut), and Digital Gain. Change is gonna come: The biggest threat to a music and audio production company is complacency, so don't expect that from us. Not only will we be introducing new faces and additional services, but things will be sounding different as well. Each time a new team member is added, everyone benefits from that person's creative input. We challenge one another to create something new and exciting with each job — to find that sound that's never been used, or treat that VO in a new way that is going to engage viewers. I get excited every year, anticipating the changes that are going come. Threats: I don't see any external threats to music and post growth in 2014. The biggest threats 46 Post • December 2013 is configured in the Nuage Workgroup Manager. In this ever-evolving industry, if you push yourself to stay on top of the trends, then you can aver t almost any threat that comes your way. One of the best ways I've found to ward off stagnation is to constantly surround myself with fresh, forward-thinking talent. Outlook for 2014: 2014 looks incredibly bright to us. Music production and audio post will enjoy continued growth, especially in the area of Webisodes and online content. Each year we've seen about a 40 percent growth in these fields, and I don't see that trend slowing down. If you're lucky enough to work in reality TV production, as we do, you will also see an increase in project volume as a new crop of shows are green-lit by the networks. www.postmagazine.com Logan contributed to Lexus's Trace Your Road campaign, as well as to the X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer. — essentially the model we've been building since the beginning." OPPORTUNITIES: "Integration with other media. The most interesting things are happening at the intersection of various disciplines. Hybrid projects, which require expertise in different areas — experiential, interactive, environmental projects utilizing VFX.  There are a lot of opportunities for shops that offer an integrated approach to live-action production and VFX under one roof." THREATS: "Some pressure is coming from realtime game engines becoming more and more sophisticated, which in turn motivates traditional VFX companies to offer more. Familiarity and knowledge of working with realtime engines is now becoming a necessity." OUTLOOK FOR 2014: "The idea of in-house liveaction directors working together with a team of VFX artists is something we have been pushing since the company started. This concept is finally becoming understood and accepted. Things are also a lot more fluid in terms of what type of projects a VFX company might be involved in. The landscape is becoming more and more fragmented with a lot of small shops competing for work, while at the same time a few large companies are trying to dominate the market."
