A Few Double Gold Wines THE TASTING PANEL'S DoubLE GoLD Tour, featuring Double Gold medalist wines and spirits from this year's San Francisco International Wine Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, made its stop in Los Angeles on September 17. While there were many, many fine products being showcased to an enthusiastic audience, I was particularly impressed with these wines. Look for more on the Tour in future issues. —A. D. CHAMPAGNE COLLET USA 93 Fowles 2009 Stone Dwellers Shiraz, Strathbogie Ranges, Australia ($20) Juicy and vibrant with elements of mint, spice and ripe blackberry; lively, rich and long. 93 Robert John Vineyards 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($80) Rich and deep with plum; elegant spice and soft herbs; toasty and complex; lush and long. 93 Larry Hyde & Sons 2010 Pinot Noir, Carneros ($65) Smooth, ripe black cherry and lovely structure; deep, complex and juicy; rich. 93 Rocca Family Vineyards 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Grigsby Vineyard, Yountville – Napa Valley ($80) Bright and racy with tangy plum and raspberry; long, classically structured and elegant. 93 J. Lohr 2009 Cuvée POM, Paso Robles ($50) Lush, warm and velvety with plum, cassis and blueberry; elegant, smooth and supple; rich, long and deep.
