BEVFORCE HOT SHOT Bryan Townsend Director of Sales – West & South, The Cooper Spirits Co. Bryan Townsend is Director of Sales – West & South at The Cooper Spirits Company. Photographed at Whiskey Cake in Dallas, TX. E ach month we check in with one BevForce Mover & Shaker to provide you with some behind-thescenes insight on the job search process, the beverage industry's most innovative companies and the executives who drive them. This month, we chatted with Bryan Townsend, who was recently named Director of Sales - West & South at The Cooper Spirits Company. PHOTO: JASON KINDIG THE TASTING PANEL: How would you define The Cooper Spirits Company's culture and what attracted you to it? Bryan Townsend: I wanted to be a part of something really special and represent brands that are unique and have incredible integrity. At Cooper Spirits, it's not all about the bottom line—it's about doing it the right way and putting products out there with heart and soul. TTP: What are your plans to further develop the business over the next year? BT: Our goal since the sale of St-Germain is to maintain the amazing industry relationships we have in the bartending community and with our distributor partners. To do that, we continue to innovate and introduce brands that are similar to St-Germain, in that they are unique and crafted with the utmost integrity. We recently introduced two new brands: Slow & Low Rock and Rye, the original bottled rye Old Fashioned, and Lock, Stock & Barrel, a 13-year-old straight rye whiskey. TTP: What advice would you give to jobseekers looking for their next role? BT: Before anyone begins looking for their next role they need to take a good hard look at themselves and know exactly who they are and what they want. Don't just take a job because it pays a certain salary or try to do a job that might not fit your personality or pair to your strengths. TTP: If you didn't work in the beverage industry, what would you be doing? BT: I would dedicate myself full time to my non-profit organization, Triggers Toys. We visit local children's hospitals and buy toys, hospital equipment and anything needed for sick and injured children. To date, I have raised over $150,000 with the help of my family and friends. TTP: If you weren't taking a shot of Slow & Low or drinking a glass of Lock, Stock & Barrel, you would be drinking a . . . BT: California Pinot or maybe even a Brunello with my wife after we put our little girl down in the evening. 46  /  the tasting panel  /  october 2013 TP1013_034-65.indd 46 9/23/13 10:33 PM
