Devlin McGill, Owner, The Leary Traveler and The Great Nabob A spread of sliders—prosciutto, falafel veggie and buffalo chicken—surrounds us on a table top at The Leary Traveler, a good-time upscale gastropub. In the Fremont & Ballard section of Seattle, in a neighborhood where coffeeshops continue to reign, The Traveler is a fine wine, beer, food and cocktail oasis. Owner Devlin McGill has a sense of humor but also a global palate and features exotic meats (kangaroo sliders are called "double hops" and are paired with a pair of IPAs). "Both my pubs are casually accessible," says McGill, also speaking to his globally influenced Great Nabob, on the lower Southeast side of Seattle's Queen Anne Hill. "The name originates in India during the Muslim reign; nabobs were governors in the Moguls' empire. As the British influence broadened in India the nabobs became men of great wealth and wisdom," he explains. "Seattle itself is such a natural crossroads of the world. Our intent is to bring that notion to life," says the restaurateur. At the bar, McGill and his bartenders have a certain flair that produces new twists on the classics.
