CTA members are running for their county Democratic and Republican Central Committees across the state in the March 5 Primary Election. These committees make contributions to candidates or ballot measures, make inde- pendent expenditures to support or oppose candidates or ballot measures, and conduct events including voter registration and "get out the vote" drives. "We bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in solving problems while centering stu- dents' holistic needs." Normand is ready to continue lead- ing in Alameda County to ensure that all students have the support they need and deserve. " I a m a sp e c i a l e d u c a t i o n t e a c h e r — and many students from marginal- ized communities find their way to my classroom. While many students have educational difficulties, many more are simply tr ying to learn and thrive in a traumatizing space, or heal from trau- mati zing circumstances, in a syst em not designed to see and prioritize their needs," Normand says. " This is why I am such an advocate f o r t ra u m a - i n f o r m e d a n d c u l tu ra l ly c o m p e t e n t w r a p a r o u n d s e r v i c e s a t s c h o o l s i t e s , k n o w n c o l l o q u i a l l y a s community schools. We cannot lesson plan our way out of the needs of many of our students, and I am committ ed to building villages that can suppor t them."
