A Mid-Spring Night at Eve: Craig Erion, General Manager, and Todd Thrasher, Managing Partner/ Sommelier, Restaurant Eve. "The wines of Ribera del Duero show such great range," said Erion, who worked side-by-side with Chef/Owner Cathal Armstrong and Chef de Cuisine Jeremy Hoffman to taste and pair each wine and dish for the dinner. THE TASTING PANEL HOSTS A DINNER OF DISCOVERY WITH WINES FROM SPAIN'S "EXTREME" REGION: RIBERA DEL DUERO by Kelly Magyarics and Meridith May / photos by Mark Finkenstaedt T he opulent yet versatile reds of Ribera del Duero showcase Spain at its heartiest. With extreme climates, diverse soils and the highest average elevation in Europe, Ribera's short growing season in Spain's northern plateau is perfectly suited to Tempranillo—an early-ripening grape—resulting in wines that combine power and elegance. With the theme "No Place for the Timid"—reflecting the extremes the Ribera del Duero region offers, from climate to elevation—we invited a select group of wine buyers for an intimate dinner at Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. Six specially selected wines from Ribera were artfully matched with Chef Cathal Armstrong's farm-to-table inspired cuisine that reflects the Virginia growing season. july 2013  /  the tasting panel  /  51 TP0713_034-65.indd 51 6/24/13 5:40 PM
