Bits & Pieces Nugen updates audio tools L EEDS, UK — Nugen Audio (www.nugenaudio.com) has updated its LM-Correct loudness analysis and correction tool, and its Loudness Management Batch (LMB) processor. The update adds a dialogue gate option to both tools which enables sound pros to measure dialogue sections within source material automatically. Dialogue gating can be used to automate dialogue-anchored loudness measurement and correction, facilitating decisions based on the loudness of sections with dialogue in the source material. In conjunction with other loudness parameters, the dialogue measure can also be used as an indicator of dialogue clarity. In addition to the dialogue gate option, new Thornberg & Forester build perfect burger for Friendly's N EW YORK — Design and digital production company Thornberg & Forester (www. thornbergandforester.com) shot a new Friendly's campaign titled "Build Your Own Burger," which consistes of four spots that appear on the restaurant's Website (www.Friendlys.com) and social media channels. Each spot was shot on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and features a talking head, explaining what it takes to build your favorite Friendly's burger. Thornberg & Forester founding partner/director Justin Meredith was tasked with realizing ad agency Allen & Gerritsen's vision for the campaign within a tight deadline and on budget. "While the storylines were pretty simple, we only had two days to get through 87 shots," he explains. "The intuitiveness, functionality and no nonsense approach to acquiring the image was huge for me. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera focuses on what's really important: the image." The camera captured imagery to an SSD card. It was also connected to a laptop running Blackmagic's UltraScope software, so the production could monitor the image for potential clipping. "Then, using Resolve's delivery tools, I took the RAW files, exported out to ProRes for the edit, brought back the EDL and was color grading with Resolve in no time," Meredith explains. "It was such a seamless workflow." Because the spots mainly feature talking heads, Meredith needed to make the actors' eyes pop to create a connection with the viewers. Resolve's 3D tracker locks Power Windows to objects and reduces the need for key generation, allowing users to track objects and achieve the needed grade. presets within LM-Correct add a :10, shortterm loudness sliding window that works in conjunction with the dialogue-gated program loudness. Similarly, LMB benefits from the addition of an adjustable, short-term sliding window parameter, making it possible to adhere to specifications based upon variants of the typical EBU three-second measure. The updates are free for all current users. Steinbranding refreshes Moviecity B UENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA — Steinbranding (www.steinbranding.com) has delivered fresh branding for several products that are part of the Moviecity family of international channels. The studio had two months to cohesively bring six channels together under the single Moviecity umbrella using straightforward sub-brands. The package included a redesign of the Moviecity umbrella logo too. The Moviecity package makes use of a standard graphic template that connects the channels as part of a brand family. Steinbranding used Maxon's Cinema 4D for the 3D elements and Adobe After Effects for animation. The resulting sub-brands include Moviecity Premieres, Moviecity Hollywood, Moviecity Family, Moviecity Classics, Moviecity Mundo and Moviecity Action. The studio says the goal was to build a system of communication to enhance the cross-promotional communication of events and create a clearer perception of a "brand neighborhood." 6 Post • June 2013 www.postmagazine.com
