6 • LMGI COMPASS | Spring 2021 L E T T E R FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Members, As I write my last letter as president of the LMGI, it's only natural to reflect upon the past three years that seem like an eternity and an instant at the same time! The Guild has grown in so many exciting ways. We have expanded our membership and continue to welcome new location professionals and business partners. Our Board is younger and more racially, geographically and culturally diverse than ever before. New committees have formed to explore issues that are important to us, the 2020 awards show went virtual to great success, and the LMGI Compass magazine continued to deliver great articles, profiles and photographs of and from members around the globe. One year ago, we had big plans. We were about to launch a new initiative related to Fam Tours. Our Regional and International Committee was planning educational events in each of our major member hubs. We were planning on a bigger, better awards show in Los Angeles. Then the global pandemic hit, wreaking havoc on virtually every person, community and country around the world. During lockdown, we all had to drastically change the way we work and operate. The Guild responded the way location professionals always do—by adapting. We embraced the new reality and reached out to members in new and innovative ways. The best example is the virtual awards show that we presented last October. I have to say, after watching the Emmys, I thought they could learn a thing or two about producing a successful virtual event from us! Coffee Tuesdays was created, bringing us together on Zoom when we were most alone. The presentations kept us up to date on cutting-edge COVID protocols, new scouting technology and locations around the world. We re-launched our newsletter and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee was formed to promote activities that open our minds and our hearts to the realities that BIPOC people face. By the time you read this, our Education Committee will have launched, in partnership with the AFCI, the first in a series of continuing education classes for its members. In conjunction with the city of Atlanta, we have created a film monitor training program that we hope to launch by summer. And we have held two very successful virtual Fam Tours, one taking us to Warsaw and the other to the Kingdom of Jordan. I'm one of the last of the old guard, a founding member who has served on the Board for much of its existence. Together, we have built a solid foundation. The LMGI Awards Show, Compass, and our website have made us globally visible and are great calling cards to attract more international participation in the Guild. We hope to expand our membership beyond the United States, Canada and Western Europe and add more location pros and business partners from Asia, Latin and South America, India and the eastern European and Scandinavian countries.
