A PHOTOGRAPHER'S FAVORITES V alerie Macon began her career as a reporter in Paris before transitioning to photojournalism. She has traveled the world to capture compelling images from war zones in Romania to drug cartels in Colombia and undersea life off the coast of Tahiti. ¶ "I've always been fascinated by the interplay of light and color, intrigued by capturing people in their most meaningful moments and compelled by the power of the image in providing information and storytelling," she said. ¶ Now an Agence France-Presse photographer based in Los Angeles, Macon has spent much of the pandemic documenting COVID-19 testing as well as the vaccination effort. But in an average year of red carpet premieres and award ceremonies, Macon is a familiar face from the Oscars to the Grammys. For the past decade, she has photographed the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ® on behalf of SAG-AFTRA. Here, she shares with us a few of her favorite images from over the years.
