W E S T W O R L D : S E A S O N 3 | P E R S P E C T I V E 3 1 to approach each of these different worlds that would be revealed through the different character arcs. DOLORES + THE FUTURE WORLD To determine what this future might look like, renown Danish architect Bjarke Ingels was brought on as a collaborator. A fan of the show himself, he connected with Jonathan during a set visit in season two, which led to his involvement on the project in season three. He felt that, given the production's parameters, we should consider shooting in Singapore to help build out our future Los Angeles. A preproduction scout to Singapore introduced us to some truly impressive buildings that we wanted to include as locations. This was a key consideration, as in many ways, the city architecture had to give the show scale, similar to how the Utah landscape expanded the Westworld park in seasons one and two. MONTY'S LAST STAND Delos MECH In addition to Singapore, some of the season's early architectural references included Calatrava's City of Arts and Sciences in alencia. I felt it would be a great campus for the Delos Corporation, as it is such an impressive complex of futuristic architecture. Since the production had been planning on going to Spain to shoot seuences for the WarWorld park, we were able to piggy-back alencia into the schedule. We also scouted in Barcelona, and through some of Bjarke's connections were able to tour La Fbrica, the offices and residence of the great Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill. La Fbrica's structure was originally a 1940s cement factory which Bofill completely re-imagined in his own somewhat post-modern language. The structure exuded power, and Jonathan fell in love with it as the secret headuarters for a new character Serac. Architecture has always been a huge inspiration for the show, so I was really glad to get to shoot in A.
