these iconic, world-class buildings. In season two, we shot Frank Lloyd Wright's La Miniatura for the home of Arnold, the character who developed the original robots. This season, we built this house as a stage set, which was, in many ways, an honor. Back in LA, location manager Mandi Dillin was scouting every possible modern option that could be modified with elements from Singapore and Spain. The recent building boom in LA provided many examples of new architecture, and luckily, many buildings weren't yet inhabited, allowing optimal timing for the show to use them. Even with all these resources, it became clear that visual effects would play a much bigger role than it had in the first two seasons. It was important to Jay Worth, the visual effects supervisor, to know what this futuristic city would look like before filming started. I really appreciate that Jay wanted design input from the Art Department as early as he could get it. I began to work with concept artists Thang Le, Manuel Plank-Jorge and Dean Sherriff to illustrate locations that were key scenes in the show. The concept team set out to use a combination of LA buildings as a base, along with an augmented skyline, a mix of buildings from Singapore, and unrealized Bjarke Ingels projects that he generously let us incorporate. This season, concept illustration took a front row seat in getting the design work done. Beside the futuristic city and stage builds, there was a seemingly endless list of concept needs, including autonomous vehicles, aircraft, massive AI mechanisms, several types of utilitarian robots, crowd control robots, weapons, several different laboratories filled with euipment, futuristic and themed period environments, and a constant flow of prop gadgetry. Prop master Ritchie Kremer worked closely with concept artists Daren A.
