I'd like to start o by announcing the MPSE is now accepting submissions for the 68th Annual Golden Reel Awards through 01/29/2021. Voting begins on 02/01/2021. Please visit the website for rules and schedule information about the 68th Golden Reel Awards. mpse.org/awards. Some exciting things have taken place in the past few months, including two big events. For the first time in history, the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and 7th Annual Mix Presents Sound for Film & TV annual events were held virtually and MPSE Wavelength was there "each step of the way" so we could bring you the scoop! On the cover are Emmy winners Craig Henighan and Will Files for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour) for Stranger Things Chapter Eight: "The Battle of Starcourt." We at Wavelength extend our congratulations to Craig and Will and their entire crew, and to all of the nominees and winners across the sound board at this year's Emmys. Be sure to check out Paulette Lifton's Q&A on page 18 with Craig Henighan and Will Files, as well as all of the nominees who were up for the award in their category. If you missed this year's Mix Presents Sound for Film & TV event, don't fret! Steve Urban has left out no detail of this year's virtual event! Kudos to everyone behind the scenes of Mix SFF&TV for putting together, and pulling o, a truly amazing and most enjoyable event! It was also truly fantastic to cross paths with so many from all over who might otherwise not be able to attend. Could this be the beginning of an added aspect of future events? One thing I do know is, you won't want to miss Steve's recount on page 46 of this remarkable two-day event. This edition of Wavelength is brimming with more interesting content that you didn't know that you wanted to know! From finding your passion sound editing broadcast commercials (Riding the Waves of Commercials page 27), or ever wonder What's a Sync Block? page 32, or what about that scream? Yes, you know the one. Check out page 60. And have you ever thought about How to Teach Future Sound Editors? Go to page 20, and be sure to check out the amazing things happening with EIPMA (Entertainment Industry, Professionals Mentoring Alliance) page 6, they're GROWING!! Plus, all of the other great content we regularly bring you in each edition. We are also proud to feature more interesting experiences and insight into the thought process driving the sound on two very dierent features contributed by our International MPSE community. Also included is a wonderful introduction to MPSE's sister organization in the U.K., Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) contributed by AMPS President Rob Walker. Check the table of contents for International Sound Wave. It all begins on page 64. I'm delighted to announce we've added a new column! A "Dear Abby" of the sort, Dear Dialogue Detective which will be contributed by MPSE member and veteran sound editor, Vickie Sampson. She will contribute one or two questions with her answers in each issue. Vickie was my dialogue instructor when I attended Video Symphony, and she continued to mentor me for years after I graduated. I've learned many of her helpful tips and secret tricks she so generously shared over the years. Feel free to submit any questions you have for "Dear Dialogue Detective" in care of Wavelength@mpse.org. I'd also like to invite your suggestions for something or someone you'd like to know more about within our industry for future editions of Wavelength.
