Rockin' Around the U.S. Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill: Roseville, CA O ne of the newcomers to historic downtown Roseville, a suburb of Sacramento, CA, is the bright and shiny, pastel neon Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill. It has a big welcoming patio off the sidewalk, and it's huge inside, with island palms, room for live performances, a crudo bar and lots more neon. That the restaurant has a family feel shouldn't be surprising. It's the brainchild of three pals who've known and worked with each other for years. And that fact that mega-famous rock and roller Sammy Hagar lent his name to the operation tells you lots about the people behind it, and about Hagar himself. Steve Pease is a longtime Roseville real estate guy with a philanthropic bent. His nonproit beneits breast cancer research, and he has other charity involvements as well. On a vacation in Maui, he and a friend wandered in to one of Hagar's restaurants, and he was struck by its partnerships with local charities. Pease had been working for years to help revitalize Roseville's downtown, and he thought a Hagar-themed restaurant would be a perfect it, both from a business perspective and from the irm's commitment to their respective communities. He cold-called Hagar's business people, and there was a meeting of the minds, and of the hearts. Things started to click. Five years later, Pease, Managing Partner Bill Kelliher and Mixology Director Jason Enyeart are gathered around the "Rumerator, a specially crafted six-tap " rum delivery system that Hagar commissioned for the restaurant. On the menu is a New York steak with Sammy's Beach Bar Rum butter. The extensive drink menu features lots of Sammy's Beach Bar Rum, including the Maui Rocker (with pineapple juice, fresh sour, orange curaçao and grenadine) and Sammy's Island (with agave sour, blue curaçao, orgeat and a loat of dark Myers's Rum). It all seems like sweet reward for hard work for good causes. A Sammy's Island cocktail and an Orange Rocker at Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill.
