ANDY KOSUSKO AND LEA DUFFY Le Puy Inn, Newberg PHOTO: EMILY HAVEN PHOTO: EMILY HAVEN For husband and wife team Andy Kosusko and Lea Duffy, their dream of owning and operating a bed and breakfast took more than ten years to become a reality. "We both were very successful in our ield, but we decided that living our life as corporate architects was not the story we The courtyard at Le Puy Inn. would want to tell." The two took their irst inn-keeping seminar in 2002, began looking for properties in 2007 and in summer 2008, began renovations on a single-family house. In 2011, the Le Puy Inn opened for business. www.lepuy-inn.com KEN PAHLOW AND ERICA LANDON Walter Scott Wines, Salem Portland Sommelier and wine educator Erica Landon and her husband and business partner, winemaker Ken Pahlow, started their own label in 2008. Walter Scott Wines has already seen tremendous success in the short time it has been in production. NATHANIEL READ, MS Antica Terra and The May, Dundee and Hood River Master Sommelier Nathaniel Ready is not your average wine industry professional. Not only is he one of only a hundred or so people in the United States to have passed the rigorous Master Sommelier exam, he is also helping to run one of the most celebrated wineries in the Willamette Valley, Antica Terra in Dundee. Ready is also developing his own brand, managing his farm and vineyard in Hood River—The May—and is working on other wine projects such as sweet Gewürztraminer from Atavus Vineyard in White Salmon and collaborating on a Roussanne with Antica Terra winemaker Maggie Harrison. www.anticaterra.com Although the two juggle full-time day jobs, they have managed to expand Walter Scott from 650 to 2,200 cases, producing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. Landon is also the wine director for Bruce Carey Restaurants. She sees a parallel with both her role at Walter Scott and as a sommelier. "Rather then working with and promoting a chef and his food, I am supporting Ken as a winemaker," she says. www.walterscottwine.com may 2013 / the tasting panel / 141
