We had a clinic car that also included a brakeman's garrison and third-class hallway, which all got a lot of screen time with many variations and signage changes abounding. Barry: That third-class clinic car, boy, that never uite made it across the finish line as much as we added changes and tried, but a good lesson to learn: It's sometimes better to start over. Now, the classroom car that doubled as the third-class mess was a success in that we were able to bring the look of the film version classroom back to the producer's approval and yet transform it in a day to the mess hall that had a stripped back utilitarian feel. Tom: It had the changeable wall panels that all fit into the extended metal shipping container system that made up all the end of train cars. That was part of the original work we inherited that I thought worked well. Barry: Yes, the bones of the system worked well but you know what I really loved was that cobbled together sanitation car, very rough and real. It had a noir feeling…a space where nefarious plans get hatched. The other third-class car that ended up working was that butcher car. Tom: I agree, that was a very effective use of some leftover parts from the original pilot that forced us into some odd angles that created an unusual spatial breakup. That car was part of third class which was called Ag-Sec for agriculture section and it included my favorite car, the greenhouse car. Barry: Loved it, not as grand as I planned but a sweet, soft visual in a mostly hard environment that answers a lot of questions and harkens back to the film by creating a feeling of wonderment on how this garden could still exist. I loved walking through that space. Tom: I remember we broke the "train rules" on a couple of occasions. Once was in third class. A C A. THIRD-CLASS CORRIDOR. SET PHOTO. B. GREENHOUSE CAR. SET PHOTO.
