Barry: I made changes that made the structure of the train more robust and more apparent in all of the lower level train cars. That, along with a rougher texture, allowed the paint crew to add a more extreme level of aging to push the dire atmosphere of the tail cars and utility cars. So, moving to the heavy-duty security gate leading to the bio-security car. This is the car where the conductors deloused and controlled the Tailie workers that were taken up-train to work. Tom: Oh yes, up-train, down-train, well, it was one way or another, you couldn't go left or right! Barry: Sometimes we went down through the train, remember all the way to the tracks, and one time up through the train to the roof! Previous to our arrival, a large opening was made between two of the warehouse stages to accommodate a lineup of fi ve of the -foot rear end cars. These cars were fi tted with motion bases that allowed this arrangement, as well as the rocking motion expected with a train in motion. Tom: hen you looked down all fi ve cars, with several angle changes at the link points where cars join each other, it was cool. These motion bases were moved around quite a bit but not all cars could be fi tted with them. Other cars were built on slightly elevated platforms and then large air bladders were placed under the cars to fl oat them and then a simple mechanical device made the car rock a bit. The last car in that fi ve-car lineup was the utility car, which gets back to the science behind this train. How did the design of that come about? Barry: The challenge was to uickly fi nd something to represent a large battery bank that would be part of a suite of batteries that stores the energy from the self-perpetuating energy wheels (science that Tesla!). With no time to design and manufacture something plausible, I found inspiration in a stack of recycling containers and thus with the addition of a few accessories, lights, pipes and graphics a make-believe battery station was born. Those utility cars got a lot of action. E F G H
