Local Opens Its Doors at Industry Night Mixer T he San Francisco-Northern California Local Board hosted a lively party for industry partners at the local's new office at Suite 840, 350 Sansome St., in San Francisco on Jan. 30. The new SAG-AFTRA office welcomed professionals from all aspects of the local news, entertainment and advertising industries with exceptional food, drinks and a live jazz pianist. Producers, casting directors, franchised talent agents, educators, station executives and city officials gathered with Local Board and committee members to discuss the latest activities in the market as well as to devise plans to better educate their peers within their respective fields of expertise. Throughout the evening, the room was lively with enthusiasm for the new initiatives, codes and waivers offered by the union, and many expressed their appreciation for the ability to more readily engage members in all types of work. It was a great introduction of industry professionals, both familiar and new, to SAG-AFTRA and its agreements. ● San Francisco- NorCal New York Business as Usual ... Virtually D uring the COVID-19 pandemic, the work of the union continues with SAG-AFTRA leadership meeting virtually to discuss additional ways the union can help members in this difficult time. Here, the SAG-AFTRA New York Local Board meets via Zoom on May 7. ● Basics of Investing with NextGen Performers T he New York NextGen Performers Subcommittee hosted financial educator David Maurice Sharp at the SAG-AFTRA New York office on Jan. 30 for his seminar Thrive as an Artist. The event provided an opportunity for attendees to learn about the basics of investing in stocks and bonds as well as tips on how to begin a sustainable retirement plan. ● David Maurice Sharp, back row, center, with NextGen Performers Subcommittee members.
