87 SAG-AFTRA | Spring 2020 | sagaftra.org ROBERT BLANCHE, an actor and former Portland Local president, passed away on Jan. 3 at the age of 57. Blanche joined the Screen Actors Guild in 1995 and his body of work included appearances on Portlandia, Grimm, Leverage and Men of Honor. Many of his friends and colleagues recall him as a man of honor who devoted much of his time to union work. He not only served as president of the SAG branch in Portland prior to merger, but also as its SAG-AFTRA local president from 2017–2019. On a national level, he was vice chair of the National SAGindie Committee from 2007–2008 and served intermittently as an alternate on the National Low Budget and Agency Committees, as well as on the TV/Theatrical Principal Performers Committee and TV/Theatrical Contract and Standing Committees from 1996 until his passing. Said Local President Michelle Damis, "That long record of service has had a profound impact on the lives of fellow SAG-AFTRA members, both directly and indirectly. My condolences to his family, friends, and all his union comrades who have suffered this loss. He will be deeply missed."
