and thus the look at the core of the film, started to take shape. Simultaneously, I began the scouting process. To anyone based in LA, the first location to consider for this film should have been the Los Angeles Times Building—and it was. Home to Geico commercials and everything else, I saw great potential in the various floors I was shown on that first scout. Some perfectly generic, some more period specific, many completely unseen; the LA Times was in the process of moving out of the building entirely and I was told of the potential for more floors opening up—but they couldn't be shown yet. The Times Building had loads of opportunities. It's a maze of architectural styles, locked doors, dead wi-fi zones, elevators to nowhere, etc., etc. I ingratiated myself quickly with Sharianne Greer, the location site manager, and convinced her to let me explore on my own and ponder every nook and possibility. The location was close enough to the downtown production office that I took any chance I had. I wanted to figure it all out before presenting a plan to Jay. Occassionally, I would get lost wandering about and inevitably locked in (or out) a few times and had to call Sharianne to be rescued. One time the entire building closed down without knowing I was still inside—my head. The 6th floor would become the film's 2nd floor— home to the Fox News executive offices. The script read with enough walk and talks that my challenge E D was to figure out the flow of connective sets and scenes, inside the existing location floor, with an eye to replicating the specifics of what I wanted from research. The scale of the 6th floor, with its interior atrium glass offices, lent the floor to be embraced as an interior/exterior "stage." A day/ night Rosco drop would be hung to provide Ailes' expansive view from his office up 6th Avenue to Radio City Music Hall (soon to be photographed in NYC), reinventing the existing interior glass as exterior. The production installed an additional elevator bay, reception area, executive assistant suite, Fox co-president Bill Shine's office, and connected the Fox publicity department down the corridor. Further around that very corridor, the 6th floor also became home to the 1st-floor Fox security lobby, leading to the 48th Street Plaza and visual effects views of 6th Avenue. A.
