70 • THE ARTISAN FALL 2019 When Elizabeth Banks contacted Camille Friend and me to head her international female-driven action movie, Charlie's Angels, I knew this was going to be something powerful. I jumped at the chance to re-team up with both of these ladies and tackle the challenge of recreating an iconic piece of cinematic history. The overall goal of the fi lm for me was creating an aesthetic based on the authenticity of each character. Reinventing an epic '70s television show that sparked a movie phenomenon of incredible entertainment needed to be done with a modern twist. Now, this was not to be done by transforming the characters into someone else—it was going to be achieved by developing the Angels' own strengths and building up from that base.
