www.postmagazine.com 38 POST SEPT/OCT 2019 DELL EMC ANNOUNCES ISILON H5600 ROUND ROCK, TX — Dell EMC (www.dellemc.com) just released the Dell EMC Isilon H5600 node, a new hybrid storage node for the Isilon system that combines massive scalability — 800TB per chassis — and up to 8GB/s bandwidth — in what the company describes as an efficient, highly dense, deep 4U chassis. With 80 10TB drives, the H5600 is well suited for workloads requiring high concurrency, such as multi-seat video editing and content delivery. For content delivery, broadcast and telco companies can rely on the H5600 to achieve high-capacity, high-performance storage and the numerous spindles that can deliver the high concurrency required to meet ever increasing viewer demands at a reduced cost per stream. Throughput for video editing is a balancing act between having enough spindles to drive performance and powerful-enough nodes to deliver that performance, which is exactly what the H5600 provides. The H5600 node type has increased spindle density, more pow- erful CPUs and more RAM than the previous hybrid H500 node type. Extra spindles also give the H5600 extra capacity, which is always at a premium for video editors. Data management is vital to the success of both content delivery and content creation organizations. The H5600 and the entire Isilon family supports Dell EMC ClarityNow, a soft- ware that enables organizations to locate, access and manage data in seconds, no matter where it resides — across file and object storage, in the data center or in the cloud. With ClarityNow, media companies can gain a holistic data view across their storage systems with a single pane of glass, effectively breaking down trapped silos of data. CODEX RELEASES MEDIAVAULT LONDON — Codex Inc. (https://codex.online) recently joined forces with Pix System to form an entertainment technology company that partners with clients to enable creative flow across the production life cycle with a suite of secure communication and content management solutions. The products are primarily aimed at the media and entertainment industry, including produc- tion solutions, as well as high-performance recording and workflow tools in support of the leading camera vendors for feature, television and commercial production. As a result, the company recently started shipping a new shared workgroup NAS storage device — MediaVault — to provide creative conti- nuity and reduced project risk by ensuring that ideas are accurately shared, stored and preserved throughout the entire creative process. The new NAS product, which Codex says is quiet and reliable, is designed as a deskside solution that can connect up to four users directly across the built-in 10GbE network. Combined with Codex's High Density Encoding (HDE) for Arriraw files, TV productions which used to only capture in the ProRes format, can now consider preserving its images in raw for future HDR mastering. The Codex MediaVault ranges in capacities from 72TB to 168TB and is available in a portagle, deskside configuration. In addition to quad 10GbE connectivity, dual 40GbE connectivity is also available as an option.
