THE ARTISAN SUMMER 2019 • 25 CRAFT EDUCATION It's been a packed lineup and busy schedule on the Local 706 Make- up Craft Meeting front. Things began with a bit of a twist from the conventional gathering on March 21, with a make-up craft "field trip" to the NARS Boutique in Beverly Hills, where our members were given the opportunity to attend one of two immersive classes that day, led by NARS Global Artistry Director Uzo. It was an event long in the planning stages that treated a captive professional audience to beauty secrets, new products, classic staples of the line, a glass or two of bubbly and plenty of giveaways for the kit. Our first official Make-up Craft Meeting of the year followed a few days later on Sunday, March 18, with a packed lineup of presenters and well over 100 members in attendance. Presenters included new additions and returning artists, including Zena Shteysel presenting her popular Z Palettes, Melanie Littlewood of Local 22 and her Go 2 Brush It! Cosmetics, Tatul, Lemonhead LA and Vita Liberata. The Vivian Baker-inspired company, TML, was on hand to launch its new make- up set bag, which rapidly sold out! We were honored to have Make-up Artist Magazine publisher and Key Publishing and IMATS founder Michael Key return to support our community and discuss upcoming events. As the longest serving make-up craft president, his approval and support of our current program cannot be overstated. The day's program also featured a very special presentation from multi-award- winning artist Trefor Proud, fresh off his Guild Award win for Cocaine Godmother, who discussed his career highlights and shared a selection and breakdown of his best looks. Just as summer kicked off, the second official Local 706 Make-up Craft Meeting came on Sunday, June 23, and those who were there will remember it was a full day! Approximately 100 members were treated to presentations from award-winning make-up artist Melanie Mills, presenting her Gleam brand and technique. Donna Novak pre- sented her Pro Aiir phthalate-free and delicious smelling color range for the first time. Eugenia Weston presented the latest from Senna Cosmetics, Shteysel returned with her new Z Palette set bag, Dana Nye presented the newest in dirt and breakdown liquid products and more from Ben Nye and M.U.D. presented their new brush range. Flora + Bast changed things up with a presentation of their cannabis- based anti-aging skin care line, and Ashley O'Boyle of The Classy Dame and Lash Spa shared an eye-opening presentation on eye safety and lash care and innovations. Bob Romero shared a much- needed simple process for taking moustache and wig measurements, and 706 member Jason Collins of Autonomous FX gave an enter- taining glimpse into his new range of silicone prosthetics, along with samples for all attendees, available now exclusively to professionals through their newly updated website, autonomousfx.com. Thank you to all presenters, volunteers and dedicated membership for helping to make this an exciting craft year so far. Look for the next Local 706 Make-up Craft Meeting, Sunday, October 13! 2019 Make-Up Craft Kickoff by Brian Kinney Make-up Craft President
