furnished 3D kitbashed components for third read realism. The on-board workstation consisted of a suspended three-part curved monitor system with on-arc extensions, a milled-aluminum cantilevered folding desk unit, and an in-surface, angle-adjustable touch interface. Monarch Nuclear Submarine, by Matthew Cunningham The sketch program for the Monarch Submarine was kicked off early on, and a lot of the initial concepts were quite modern, almost a blend between a hydrofoil and a submarine, with a trident-shaped silhouette. Explorations included a more animistic theme inspired by a blue whale, to a wedge-shaped polygonal volume, which I believe suggested more advanced technology, as current double-hulled submarines must maintain equal distribution loads on their surface, hence their round shape. The director was quite intent on pursuing a more contemporary solution, so we based the scale of the sub on the American Virginia- Class, fast-attack submarine, which I built out in 3D with scale details in two different versions. The first having a clear distinction between the inner and outer hull, a theme which I designed into the early command ship as well. The second, having a very clearly defined spine on the hull which descended from the submarines sail. A. OSPREY V-22 CUTAWAY VIEW. ILLUSTRATION BY MATTHEW CUNNINGHAM. B.
