14 The Costume Designer Spring 2019 Dear Members, 2019 is going to be a stellar year for our members! We have seen a large growth in the types of available work over these last few years. The increase in product fueled by stream- ing companies has created more opportunities to display our talents than ever before. This, along with the pay equity campaign, brings new hope to our members for a bright future. Our Education Committee is offering more exciting opportunities for our members to stretch their talents and abilities. We also offer classes on how to make the workplace safer and easier to maneuver. Our Young Workers Committee is busy planning community-based projects for members to help in their neighborhoods. We are also involved on the political front supporting several bills in Sacramento. Our labor representatives are diligent in their efforts in to organize nonunion work in our jurisdiction. The office staff is continuing to evaluate and incorporate new methods of serving the membership more efficiently. Our database is in the process of being rewritten and updated and soon our website will undergo a facelift. As you can see, we are busy trying to serve the membership, but we still need your help. We rely on members to call in their work when they take a job whether union or nonunion. We invite you to become more involved in our wonderful weekend classes, seminars, and social events. This summer, we will be holding elections for all officers, Executive Board members and alternates, assistant costume designer, and illustrator representatives, trustees, and delegate positions. This is a great opportunity to serve your fellow members and become involved in the future of our Guild. Any member in good standing for two years can run for any position. There is no time limit on membership to run as a delegate. In July, we will be sending out the election information packets and I encourage you to look them over and put your- self up as a candidate. Be a part of this Guild now and help shape the future for those who will come after you. Be an advocate and participate in all the ways we offer and make your Guild experience a fulfilling one. I recently attended Commercial Agreements with the IA and the AICP in New York and am pleased to say Costume Designers will receive an outsized increase of 15 percent on wages for the first year of the contract. This was a great victory our fight for pay equity. Although it does not achieve full equity, I am proud to have been instrumental in this unprecedented first step.
