SPRING 2019 | ADVOCATE 7 T he fifth AEA cohort of the Teacher Leadership Institute met for the second time this past February, joining more than 1,000 NEA teacher-leaders in nine states across the country who are deciding to focus precious time and energy enhancing their leadership skills and impact. The Teacher Leadership Institute (TLI) is a comprehensive effort to recruit, prepare, activate, and support the next generation of teachers to lead a transformed teaching profession. Increasingly, teachers are seeking new opportunities to advance their careers and the profession by taking on new leadership roles. Through the TLI, teachers will play more consequential roles in shaping the policies and practices that govern teaching and learning. TLI is an endeavor of the National Education Association (NEA) and supported by the Center for Teaching Quality (CTQ) and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). AEA Leaders' Academy AEA Teacher Leadership Institute L eaders' Academy participants came from across the state to take part in this intensive training held by AEA in Prescott, Arizona, to build enduring, strong relationships that lead to Association strength. The Leaders' Academy is designed as an intensive two-session program to develop members' leadership skills and Association knowledge. The sessions will increase members' effectiveness as they grow into assuming up front roles in their own locals.
