NEA's Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2—Dr. Seuss's birthday. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, and books. WEA locals also fi nd unique ways to celebrate across the state. The idea for the national day started in 1997 with a task force at the National Education Association and the fi rst one was celebrated in 1998. Research shows that promoting reading is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong readers. Currently, NEA is expanding its branding of the program with its tagline, "celebrating a nation of diverse readers." This year marks the sixth year of Wyoming Education Association's statewide literacy tour called the, "Cat- a-Van." Vetter has been travelling to schools across Wyoming starting in March through June to bring the Association's reading program to schools thanks to a grant from the NEA. Each school visit features a theatrical representation of the beloved "Cat in the Hat" by Vetter while a member of the staff reads the book aloud to excited children. As part of the READ ACROS 13
